PolyVinylidene Fluoride – PVDF
PVDF offers excellent chemical resistance to a wide range of substances including acids, bases, solvents and oils making it suitable for harsh environments and applications.
Having high dielectric strength, it is an excellent electrical insulator so is often used in high voltage applications and in the production of components used in such areas.
It is a piezoelectric material, generating charge when mechanically deformed or subject to pressure. This property is utilised in sensors, transducers and energy harvesting devices.
Its high UV resistance makes it suitable for external applications.
Low density together with its other beneficial properties are the reasons it is used where weight is a consideration such as aerospace and motor sport applications.
It has a higher melting point than many other thermoplastics and retains its properties at higher temperatures.
Extruded up to 3m in length from 5mm diameter up to 100mm diameter, rods are produced specifically for machining precision components.
Sheets are available from 10mm to 60mm thick.
